Thanks to everyone who has kept my mom in your prayers. Here is a quick update on how she is doing:
Mom's surgery on April 24 went great. Instead of the anticipated 4 hours, it only took 2. The surgeon was very pleased with how much of the tumor he was able to remove. He said the chemo should be able to nicely clean up any cancerous stuff that might have been missed. He also removed an additional 6 liters of fluid (comes to a total of 10L since early April). Mom's feeling GREAT because this has obviously relieved a whole lot of pressure she'd been suffering through for a while. She jokes around that it's one of the most fast-acting weight loss programs she has tried (and really has to be less disgusting than the curry slurries she talked about a while back).
The other good news, I think, is that the surgeon now says the cancer is most likely of the peritoneum (lining of the abdominal cavity for all you non-doctors). So the tumor started in the location it was found, it didn't migrate there. Original diagnosis was that a tumor had started in the ovary, broken off, migrated and then got huge. So the fact that it didn't move around inside seems positive to me.
At this point, Mom is home, enjoying the company of her visiting sisters. She'll have a nurse checking on her daily for a little bit, which is nice. In general, she's in rather good spirits and excited to be home. The chemo won't start for another two weeks or so, so she will have some time to just relax after her surgery.
The outpouring of support and prayers from friends and family has been really nice. It has been somewhat trying being overseas and unable to find out what exactly is going on. I have really appreciated the updates my sister and aunts have been sending. It is hard to get too worried, though, because Mom is so positive about her treatment and doctor. That is incredibly reassuring. I'm looking forward to spending most of June back home, though, so we can spend some time together and I can help out for a bit.
So keep up the good work with your prayers! They've been working so far and God is taking good care of Mom.

I was really glad to hear how well things were going. I have a great feeling that everything will be OK. Right when my mom told me about it I just knew she would be fine. She's got so many people praying for her she has no choice but to recover ;) haha. It's great you get to go out there in June to be with her!
